Back in the psychedelic days of rock and roll, some bands used to chemically enhance themselves to enhance their perceived performances to their fans. Unfortunately, these chemical enhancements would sometimes lead to a member or members of the band being unable to perform. As the show must go on, desperation took over and a member of the crew or a friend who could play, was pressed into service and the live performance would take on an entirely fresh sound. Many times this sound was magic as the spontaneity of the moment led to some incredible live performances. The throw together band was referred to as Mama's Stew. Flash forward to late 2007. The concept of a new Mama's Stew came about as several of the area bands were having scheduling and personnel issues forcing them to cancel jobs, sometimes at the last minute. Mike, Bob, Chris and Jack, who were permanent members of other bands came up with the idea of the ultimate fill-in band. They put together a song list of songs they all knew, picked a singer, a key, and if someone needed them they could show up on a last minute gig and fill in; many times with little or no rehearsal. Their varied musical styles, experience and vocals were immediately intertwined and the sound was remarkable. The magic of the early days was back! For over fifteen years, over 200 songs in their repertoire, and about a thousand shows later, Mama's Stew continues on with the spark and spontaneity that has been instrumental to the success of Rock and Roll.
